Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

Description:
The course syllabus covers the mandatory minimum requirements prescribed
in Regulation Vl/2 and Section A-Vl/2-1 of STCW'95.
Objectives:
Trainees who successfully complete the course will be able to demonstrate
the required minimum standard of competence set out in Table A-VI/2-1
of STCW'95 for seafarers who may be designated to take charge of
the preparation, embarkation, launching and handling of survival
craft.
Course Outline:
o Types of emergency.
o Types of survival craft and rescue boat.
- design criteria, construction, equipment, characteristics.
o Launching arrangements for survival craft.
o Action to be taken at lifeboat muster stations to prepare for launching.
o Abandoning ship - launching lifeboat.
o Abandoning ship - launching life rafts.
o Action to be take when clear of ship.
o Survival Management - routines when in a survival craft.
o Handling of survival craft on water
o Marshalling of life rafts using lifeboat and rescue boat.
o Recovery of survivors from water into survival craft and rescue
boat.
o Use of locating devices.
o Helicopter rescue.
Entry Standards:
This course is open to those seafarers who are :
1) Not be less than 18 years of age.
2) Medically fit.
3) Holders of a valid certificate of training in Basic Safety or Personal Survival Techniques.
Duration: 30 hours
Class capacity: 30 trainees
