Advanced Fire Fighting

Description:
The course syllabus covers the mandatory minimum requirements prescribed
in Regulation Vl/3 and Section A-Vl/3 of STCW'95.
Objectives:
Trainees who successfully complete the course will be able to demonstrate
the required minimum standard of competence set out in Table A-VI/3
of STCW'95 for seafarers who may be designated to control fire-fighting
operations.
Course Outline:
o Theory of fire-fire hazards and spread of fire.
o Structural fire protection in ships.
o Personnel protection for fire fighters
o Fixed and portable extinguishing systems.
o Control of fire fighting operations aboard ships.
- Shipboard emergency organization
- Chain of command.
- Communications and co-ordination of fire-fighting operations.
o Damage control and containment of fire.
o Stability considerations
o Management of ventilation to enclosed spaces.
o Organization of fire-fighting teams - fire team operations.
o Principles and practice of B .A. control.
o Fire-fighting techniques and practice.
Entry Standards:
This course is open to those seafarers who have completed a basic
course in fire prevention and fire fighting. They should be certified
to be in good health.
